Renewing the Domestic Employee Work Permit
The work Permit of the domestic employee is valid for a limited period from the date of arrival into the Kingdom of Bahrain, the employer may apply for the renewal for a similar period of time electronically via the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA's) Expat Management System (EMS) or by personal attendence at LMRA before the end of the duration of the work permit.
Important Notes Regarding the Work Permit Renewal Process:
- The work permit has expired for less than 12 months: The work permit can be renewed online via the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA's) Expat Management System (EMS) or by personal attendence at LMRA based on the process steps listed below.
- The work permit has expired for more than 12 months: An extension of residence must be obtained from the Nationality, Passports and Residency Affairs (NPRA). The employer must submit a new work permit application for the domestic employee online via the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA's) Expat Management System (EMS) or by personal attendence at LMRA.
Service Conditions
- Domestic employee passport must be valid for more than two months.
- The domestic employee must have completed biometric data collection procedures.
- The domestic employee must have completed the mandatory medical examination procedures.
- First-degree relatives are accepted (In case of authorization only).

Process Description
eService (Expat Management System (EMS))
- Click here to apply for the service through the LMRA's Expat Management System (EMS).
- If applied via the Expat Management System (EMS), follow the instructions and enter the required information, then click on submit renewal.
- Once the renewal application is submitted, kindly pay the renewal fees via the Expat Management System (EMS).
- The renewal will be validated immediately upon completion of the fee’s payment, and the permit will be printed immediately.
Physical Location
- The employer or the person who will act on his/her behalf should attend in person at any of LMRA branches to apply for the renewal with all supporting documents.
- LMRA’s employee shall receive the work permit renewal application.
- The application is verified, and the work permit is renewed in the system.
- The permit renewal fees are collected from the applicant by the Client Services Directorate employee and the permit is then printed and handed over to the applicant.

The Optional Insurance System
Employers can apply the optional insurance system before the renewal process in order to provide the domestic employees with an insurance coverage in case they breached the contractual obligations of the agreed policy.
